The EOS OAU Meet-up is the first meet-up held in Osun State and in Obafemi Awolowo University(OAU), Ile Ife. The goal of the meet-up was to give the students of OAU education on the EOS.IO software and blockchain and inspire them to pay attention to this auspicious technology and community.

The meetup happened on the 18th of August 2018. About 150 Students from the University attended.

Speakers

The speakers that taught during the meet-up were veterans in the blockchain field. They include the following auspicious gentlemen:

Toritseju Kaka(Tojukaka)

Tojukaka EOS OAU Meet-up Host

The host and major speaker for the event was my humble self. I gave a lecture on EOS and the importance of decentralized applications. Using ONO, (the first social media dApp that was initially meant to run on EOS main-net) as a case study, I showed the difference between centralized and decentralised applications and emphasized the need for and the promise of decentralization. I also talked about other dApps like Carmel, Everipedia,e.t.c. which are going to be on EOS mainnet.

Ken Akure

Ken Akure is the head of research and communications of EOS Nigeria BP. He spoke about the social-political structure of EOS. He spoke about the role of block producers, the plans of EOS Nigeria BP and the need for Nigerians to embrace EOS and build on it.

Jackson Jerry

Jackson Jerry: Karmaap.io

Jackson Jerry is an ambassador for Karma. He spoke passionately about the Karma App and how we can use cryptocurrency to make the world a better place by incentivising good deed.

Feedback

The best part of the meet-up for me was hearing testimonies from students. Some of them have never heard about blockchains and cryptocurrency before. I felt really fulfilled as a teacher and volunteerist.

My greatest achievement however was not the knowledge that was transferred that day but that we inspired the students to start paying attention. We exposed them to the new world of decentralization. We ignited the fires of their enthusiasm.

EOS University Clubs

In order to keep the fires burning we have created an EOS Club in OAU. OAU is the first University in Nigeria to have an EOS club. The EOS Club is not an idea that was born in a day. It has been a subject of discussion amongst EOS Nation Ambassadors in Nigeria.
