Nigeria is the giant of Africa, the most populous country in Africa and now she is ranked by Google trends as the country with the highest google searches for Bitcoin in the world. The demand for cryptocurrency solutions is on the rise and the people are quickly adopting the technology despite the fact that the government has not taken a clear stance on how they want to regulate this new asset class.
On the 13th of July, 2019, over 1,000 young people from in the city of Ibadan attended “Safe Conference”. SAFE Conference is a yearly conference that is aimed at empowering young people with the knowledge to withstand the waves that come with the ever-changing tides of technology and the innovations that comes with the fourth industrial revolution.
This year’s conference was tagged “UPGRADE: Leadership and Career Success in the 4th Industrial Revolution”. It was held in the city of Ibadan which is the largest city in West Africa by geographical area. Ibadan has a population of over 3 million making it the third-most populous city in Nigeria.
The conference featured some amazing speakers who are exceptional in their field. The keynote speaker for the event was Dr. Abib Olamitoye, the Founder of Ibadan Central Hospital. He kicked off the event with the story of how he started his journey from a small mud house with a thatched roof, how he has grown his hospital to unprecedented heights and how he has built successful businesses in Europe and other parts of the world.

- Patricia Abokede: Child Right Activist, Developmental Psychologist, and Public Health Nurse at the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan.
- Oluwamayowa Tijani: Development Journalist & Chevening Scholar.
- Abiodun Adereni: Founder, HelpMum and Google $250,000 Impact Challenge Winner.
- Dr. Segun Fatudimu: Founder of Sozo Networks, Mandela Washington Fellow, Associate Fellow of the Royal Commonwealth Society, Lead partner at UrDentalPlace place limited.
- Moyinoluwa Adeyemi: Android developer/Co-organizer Lagos Google Developers group.
- Dr. Jubril Abdulmalik: Consultant Psychiatrist University Central Hospital and Convener of Asido Foundation.
BOS Presentation
Africa Community Manager for BOS, Toritseju Kaka gave a presentation about BOS during the conference. The audience was thrilled to hear about BOS advanced features such as 3 Seconds LIB and inter-blockchain communication.
Cryptocurrency and Blockchain technology is a concept that the population is not yet accustomed to. The theme of the conference “UPGRADE: Leadership and Career Success in the 4th Industrial Revolution” is perfect to introduce such an audience to blockchain technology because blockchain is the foundation for the fourth industrial revolution. The current infrastructure of the internet cannot suffice for the changes that technologies like artificial intelligence and the internet of things are bringing to society.
Safe conference is followed by a two weeks workshop, the Safe Academy where selected students would undergo pieces of training on different areas including Blockchain technology.
The BOS community in Africa is growing and at a rapid pace. BOS is the best platform to build blockchain applications that are meant for real-world businesses because of its advanced features such as 3 Seconds LIB and IBC. BOS has a global community and is interested in attracting the best minds. There is currently a work proposal fund or grant of 100 Million BOS tokens (approximately 10 million dollars) to support projects and teams that can build tools, projects that can bring value to the BOS ecosystem.
